Bio-Tech Department

The Department was established in the year 2002 to offer IV year B.Tech - Biotech course at UG level and M.Tech (Biotechnology) was introduced in the year 2008. CMR is one of the first engineering colleges in AP to introduce Biotechnology discipline and produced a Gold Medalist It aims to produce the potential engineering graduated in this emerging area of Technology to serve the nation and the world. The department is proud of producing a Gold Medalist & 6,12,15,38,56,69,73rd Rank holders among JNTU Affiliated Colleges.

Biotechnology altogether is vast in its contend and can be described as a multidimensional Engineering discipline that derives the principles and methods from Engineering (Chemical, Mechanical, Computer Science etc), biological science and the tools of Bioinformatics to develop & improve the quality of bio-products, like vaccines, antibiotics, bio-pesticides, bio-fuels, genetically modified products The focus at the department is presently on training the students in various practical & theoretical aspects of biotechnology that includes the practices of Microbiology, Biochemistry, Mass Transfer Operations, Genetic Engineering,Bioprocess and bioinformatics etc. At the same time the department also encourages the faculty to carry out research work in the department and in the industries.

Bio-Technology encompasses various disciplines of technology and thus poses a challenge to both the faculty and the students. Realizing this very aspect due care has been taken to provide State of the art labs which enable hands on experience to the students. Following Labs have been established:

Cell Biology, Microbiology, Bio Chemistry, Bio-Process Engineering, Tissue Culture, Bio-Organic Chemistry & Bio-Informatics.Bioprocess-1
